Simple Ways to Construct Search Orders

Simple decision heuristics that process cues in a particular order and stop considering cues as soon as a decision can be made have been shown to be both accurate and quick. But one criticism of heuristics such as Take The Best is that these owe much of their simplicity and success to the not inconsiderable computations necessary for setting up the cue search order before the heuristic can be u...

New Ways to Construct Binary Search Trees

We give linear-time algorithms for re-ordering and heightrestricting a binary search tree with only a small increase in cost, constructing a nearly optimal binary search tree given the rank by probability of each possible outcome, and height-restricting an optimal binary search tree when the increase in cost is restricted. Whereas most algorithms for constructing good binary search trees need t...

Applying inversion to construct rational spiral curves

A method is proposed to construct spiral curves by inversion of a spiral arc of parabola. The resulting curve is rational of 4-th order. Proper selection of the parabolic arc and parameters of inversion allows to match a wide range of boundary conditions, namely, tangents and curvatures at the endpoints, including those, assuming inflection.

Signal detection Using Rational Function Curve Fitting

In this manuscript, we proposed a new scheme in communication signal detection which is respect to the curve shape of received signal and based on the extraction of curve fitting (CF) features. This feature extraction technique is proposed for signal data classification in receiver. The proposed scheme is based on curve fitting and approximation of rational fraction coefficients. For each symbo...

Two ways to condense

Two ways to condense G ene-rich euchromatin and largely untranscribed heterochromatin may follow different rules to prepare for mitosis, according to J. Robert Manak, Joseph Lipsick, and colleagues (Stanford University, Stanford, CA). From S phase to prophase, chromatin must replicate and then condense to prepare for mitosis. In most eukaryotic cells, euchromatin starts the process by replicati...
